Abstract
An early season, area-wide gossyplure mass-trapping demonstration program for suppression of adult male pink bollworm (PBW), Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), in cotton was conducted for 3 yr (1975–77) on 90% of the cotton grown in the Safford area of southeastern Arizona. The grower-financed project included 3085 ha in 1975, 3238 ha in 1976, and 6287 ha in 1977. Seasonal PBW larval infestations per field averaged 1.90% for the 3-yr mass trapping project, compared to a 4.18% avg infestation for the 3 yr immediately preceding the project. The lower PBW infestations in cotton in the absence of any change in fall cultural practices or abnormal weather changes either before or after the program began indicate that the early season, mass trapping technique has potential as a tool in PBW pest management programs. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
