Abstract
The topographical and cellular structure of the nucleus basalis Meynert of Delphinus delphis Linnaeus (Mammalia, Cetacea) is described from Nissl preparations. A reconstruction of the nucleus in relation to the neighboring palaeostriatal and neostriatal structures reveals the relatively large dimensions of the basal nucleus in this species of Cetacea. Prior comparative studies indicate that neocortically higher species (especially Homo sapiens, Delphinus delphis and Tursiops truncatus), exhibit a correspondingly advanced development of the nucleus basalis of Meynert. Keywords
