Biological Characteristics of Cultured Endometrial Adenocarcinoma Cells and Changes in Their Characteristics Following Serial Passage

Abstract
We cultured variously differentiated human endometrial adenocarcinomas to study changes in their biological characteristics due to serial passage. In primary cultures of endometrial adenocarcinoma, morphological features of the cultured cells were as well differentiated as the tissue differentiation in the original culture materials; with increase in the number of subcultures, however, the cultured cells turned gradually into uniformly poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma cells. The growth rate was slightly accelerated with successive subcultures. The modal chromosome number was stable at the diploid range. The sensitivity to estradiol‐17β and progesterone decreased with successive subcultures. The poorly differentiated cells after subculture again showed differentiation upon treatment of progesterone.Keywords
