New Viewpoints in the Pathogenesis and Therapy of Chronic Cholecystitis

Abstract
The authors carried out investigations on the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic cholecystitis, in 66 patients. The duodenal juice (B bile) was examined in 57 cases and pus cells found in every case. In all but one case the coli strains isolated from the duodenum could be agglutinated by homologous blood serum. In 91% of the stool samples the authors found strains which were agglutinated by homologous serum. Apparently the regular presence of coli agglutinins can be taken as proof of the coli etiology of chronic cholecystitis, and the pathogenesis of the disease is coli allergy.
