Abstract
Deuterium NMR provides a quantitative estimate of the perturbation of the configurational averaging within n-alkanes dissolved in anisotropic nematic phases. A prescription for modeling the constraints imposed on the alkane by the nematic mean field and extracting relevant conformational details from observed quadrupolar splittings is described. Keywords
