Abstract
Sporangiospore ornamentation in 9 thermophilic Rhizopus spp. and in species of 2 closely related genera, Rhizomucor and Thermomucor, was examined by scanning electron microscopy. Sporangiospores of all species showed characteristic surface ornamentation; this was an important character for the separation of species. [The following isolates were used: Rhizomucor pusillus (Lindt) Schipper (ATCC 16458); Rhizopus arrhizus Fischer (ATTC 24563); R. chinensis Saito (ATCC 22958); R. cohnii Berlese et de Toni (ATCC 24793); R. homothallicus Hesseltine and Ellis (CBS 336.62); R. microsporus van Tieghm (CBS 262.28); R. oligosporus Saito (ATCC 22959); R. pseudochinensis Yamazaki (CBS 264.28); R. rhizopodiformis (Cohn) Zopf. (CBS 712.73); R. stolonifer (Ehrenb. ex Fr.) Lind. (Synomyn R. nigricans Ehrenb) (IMI 57762); and Thermomucor indicae-seudaticae Subrahamanyam et al. (Rhizopus sp. Evans, 1971) (CBS 880.71).].This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
