Abstract
Intravenous injection of 25 μg synthetic LH-releasing hormone (LHRH) was followed by a marked increase in serum-LH in ten out of twelve infertile women with lack of ovulation. a less pronounced increase in serum-FSH was recorded. the sensitivity to LHRH seems to be influenced by exo-genouos genuine oestrogens. No correlation was found between the oestrogen level and the LH-response. in two patients the LH-release was suppressed by oestrogens. in one patient 1/2 mg oestradiol daily seems to increase the sensitivity considerably. Five patients received a single injection of LHRH after pretreatment with Human Menopausal Gonadotropin (HMG). One of these patients developed an overstimulation syndrome and ovulated in two series. None of the other patients had ovulation after a single injection of LHRH. Besides the overstimulation syndrome no side-effects were observed. Three patients received intravenous infusion with 50 μg LHRH. Two of these patients showed signs of ovulation. Two patients were treated with 25 μg LHRH daily during treatment with HMG, and the LH-release was largest before the start of the treatment and when the urinary excretion of oestrogen increased. None of the patients became pregnant. Keywords
