Abstract
A method for estimating absorbed dose per unit exposure for selected organs resulting from diagnostic fluoroscopy used with artificial pneumothorax in patients is presented and evaluated by comparison with appropriate published data. Generally good agreement is seen with these comparison data, especially with a Monte Carlo radiation transport technique when soft tissue sites are encompassed by the primary beam. These empirical data augmented with Monte Carlo calculations apparently form an acceptable dosimetric basis for an ongoing epidemiologic study of carcinogenic risk associated with low doses of ionizing radiation. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
