Abstract
Anti-polymorphonuclear leukocyte [PMN] Ig[immunoglobulin]G (APS IgG) was prepared from crude horse anti-PMN antiserum (APS). The APS IgG was less toxic than the crude APS and had a powerful and specific effect on rabbit PMN in vivo and in vitro. In rabbits infected with K. pneumoniae it suppressed the normal PMN response and greatly reduced resistance to infection. Anti-K. pneumoniae antibody greatly enhanced protection in normal rabbits but had much less effect on APS IgG-treated rabbits. The principal cellular defense against K. pneumoniae was the PMN and macrophages made only a relatively small contribution to resistance. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
