Abstract
Angiographic study has been made of the effects of metaraminol on the renal vessels of the dog. As far as could be judged from the angiogram, metaraminol in dosage of 0.05 to 0.1 mg. per kg. caused no decrease in renal blood flow. With higher dose (0.2 to 0.4 mg. per kg.) metaraminol produced marked changes in the appearance of the renal vessels, indicating increased renal vascular resistance with a major effect on the main renal arteries. Doses of metaraminol and levarterenol with similar effects on the blood pressure showed different activities in respect to renal vasoconstriction. Levarterenol (like epinephrine) is more potent than metaraminol in respect to constriction of renal vessels. Metaraminol has a direct action on the renal vasculature.
