Abstract
In 2 multicenter, double-blind studies, ciclopirox olamine cream 1% was compared with either its cream vehicle or with 1% clotrimazole cream for the treatment of patients with tinea pedis. Evaluations were made before treatment, weekly for 4 wk during treatment, and for 2 wk posttreatment. Ciclopirox olamine cream was significantly more effective clinically (P < 0.001) and mycologically (P < 0.05) than its vehicle. Ciclopirox olamine was also superior to the marketed imidazole, 1% clotrimazole cream. Significantly more patients treated with ciclopirox olamine (P < 0.05) than those treated with clotrimazole achieved clinical and mycological cures. Both products were well tolerated.
