Abstract
An accurate Fourier series representation of the Green tensor is presented and used to discuss and compare three models of the vacancy in copper. These are the harmonic lattice model, a non-local continuum model and an equivalent local continuum model; the errors involved in neglecting both the dispersive properties of the host and the non-local nature of the point defect itself are discussed. Possible applications to dislocation theory are also discussed. Keywords
