Abstract
All-optical time-division-multiplexed (TDM) transmission technologies will be essential for future ultrahigh-speed all-optical networks. They include ultrashort transform-limited (TL) pulse generation, all-optical modulation/ time-division multiplexing, high-speed timing extraction and all-optical time-division demultiplexing. In this paper, the TDM transmission technologies that use ultrahigh-speed optical nonlinear phenomena are reviewed. A recent 100 Gbit/s, 200 km optical transmission experiment [1] is shown and problems that must be overcome to achieve > 100 Gbit/s transmission are also discussed. Keywords
