Abstract
Peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) of the Mitcham strain was introduced into New Zealand from Oregon in 1968. During 3 years peppermint oil of high quality was produced when the crop was harvested at fijll or late bloom. Excluding the first harvest from the first area established, oil yields were satisfactory: 45.6 and 56.6 kg/ha for the first harvest, 67.3 and 71.6 kg/ha for the second harvest, and 53.4 kg/ha for the third harvest after planting. Higher yields are expected with increased applications of nitrogen and more frequent irrigation. Keywords
