Abstract
A fully microscopic calculation for pion inelastic excitation of giant resonances in which random phase approximation transition densities are used is presented for the first time. The mixing of isoscalar and isovector modes is incorporated in the random phase approximation calculations and its effect on σ() vs σ() is discussed. Comparison with existing data is made and reasonable agreement is achieved.
