Abstract
The activity of alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase was measured in leukocytes and plasma of 219 patients. The variation in enzymatic activity in all 4 cases is mutually independent. Increased alkaline phosphatase activity in the neutrophile occurred frequently in cases of infection, pulmonary or myocardial infarction, cerebral vascular disturbances, cirrhosis, malignant tumor. and in acute phases of malignant lymphogranuloma. Furthermore, increases were noted in cardiac and respiratory insufficiency, in jaundice and hepatitis, in renal failure, in poisoning, in ill-defined neurological and psychiatric diseases. The activity of this enzyme may be conditioned by acidosis, and humoral and endocrine factors, especially by adrenal and ovarian hormones. The level of acid phosphatase in the leukocyte also increased often in similar clinical conditions that give rise to augmentations of the alkaline phosphatase in the neutrophile. Keywords
