Abstract
The electron impact excitation of hydrogen in the presence of an electromagnetic field has been formulated within the framework of the Glauber approximation. For a low frequency EM field the cross section formula takes a simple analytic form analogous to the one discussed by Kroll and Watson (1973) for the case of potential scattering. Numerical results are given for 1s to 2p excitation and results are compared with those obtained by the first Born approximation. Keywords
