Abstract
An enhanced version of a previously presented nonlinear optimization algorithm is presented for designing asymmetric FIR digital filters. The asymmetric FIR filter design (AFFD) algorithm is based on the iterative use of the generalized multiple exchange (GME) algorithm. The enhanced version of the AFFD algorithm uses a line search of the nonlinear Lagrangian to determine the iteration step size. This greatly enhances the convergence properties of the AFFD algorithm. The AFFD algorithm can design optimal multiband filters that simultaneously meet specifications on the group delay and the magnitude of the frequency response. Keywords
