Abstract
In a multicentre trial, 175 women who presented to their general practitioners with symptoms of acute urinary tract infection and who had significant bacteriuna were randomly allocated to 7 days' treatment with trimethoprim 50, 100 or 200 mg twice daily or co-trimoxazole two tablets twice daily. Cure rates in the various groups were between 98 and 100% at 14 days and between 93 and 100% at 6 weeks after starting treatment. There was no significant difference between any of the four treatment groups with regard to cure rates, incidence of side effects or in any other variable measured. Keywords
