Abstract
This is a cytotaxonomic and geographic study and revision of Helianthella, a genus of 8 spp. of perennial sunflowers indigenous to western N. America and Mexico. Natural hybridization is rare in the genus, having been observed only once, involving H. mexicana and H. quinquenervis. In the 6 spp. examined, the chromosome number is n=15.
