Abstract
The equilibria between liquid and vapour in the system water‐formic acid‐metaxylene have been investigated. The system has a saddle point in the region of partial miscibility, which is situated for a pressure of 760 mm at a temperature of 97.5° and at a vapour composition of 10.6% water, 40.4% formic acid and 49.0% m‐xylene. From these equilibria was deduced how one can use m‐xylene for dehydrating the azeotropic water‐formic acid mixture with 22.6% water and with what yield. Keywords
