Abstract
The mammalian embryo in its development passes through an indifferent stage during which the anlage for both [male] and [female] structures coexist and the [male] embryo undergoes sexual differentiation earlier than the [female]. [male] hormones injected into pregnant rats produce normal [male] offspring and [female] offspring markedly masculinized; true estrogens markedly feminize the genetic [male] offspring. The results lend evidence to the dihormonic theory. The possibility is considered that the relatively large doses of estrogen suppressed the gonads either directly or indirectly via the ant. pituitary. Keywords
