Abstract
Social work's prevailing research paradigm is outmoded and restrictive, glorifies method (particularly quantification) over substance, and discourges contributions by practitioners. The profession must generate knowledge that is more relevant to the practitioner and more applicable to the important problems with which it is and will be confronted. Future research should be more up to date and more likely to produce useful knowledge. It should treat clinical skills of practitioners as resources, not as liabilities. Keywords
