Abstract
Bitumes obtained from Mina do Leão (ML) and Candiota(MCd) coals are fractionated by liquid chromatography and the aromatic fractions analysed by CGC and CGC/MS. Alkyl naphthalenes and alkyl phenanthrenes indices are calculated and tentatively associated with geochemical properties (reflectance indices). High relative concentrations of unsubstituted PAH's in both extracts, including phenanthrene, fluoranthene and pyrene, suggests that both coals were submitted to high temperatures and pressures during the coalification process. Several cancer suspectted agents including benzo(a)pyrene, chrysene, pyrene and fluoranthene were positively identified in the studied bitumens. Keywords
