Abstract
General perturbation theoretical arguments are given for the opposite effect of small positive and negative charge transfer on the geometry of solids. Applications to π-conductors, such as intercalated graphites and doped polyacetylenes, indicate C-C bond elongation for donor compounds and shortning for acceptor compounds, in agreement with experiment.Keywords
