Abstract
A pacemaker sound was detected in 21 out of 40 patients (52%) with an implanted cardiac pacemaker. In eight patients, intercostal or abdominal muscle contractions synchronous with pacemaker sound could be observed, supporting the opinion that pacemaker sound originates from skeletal muscle contraction. The incidence of pacemaker sound seems to depend on the type of pacing unit and its localization, since it occurred more frequently when fixed rate pacemakers were used, and in patients who had the pacemaker implanted in the axillar region. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
