Abstract
Nurse's aides perform most of the direct care given to elderly nursing home residents. Interviews with 206 nurses's aides in the Greater Detroit area showed that most are paid less than $80.00 per week and that only two-thirds of them are given any on-the-job training. Working conditions in nursing homes play a large role in determining the quality of care aides can give. Aides work hard and should be encouraged, respected, and included in all planning by and for nursing homes. Keywords
