Effects of endotoxin and cytokines on lipid metabolism

Abstract
Endotoxin, via cytokines, induces marked changes in lipid metabolism: serum VLDL increases, whereas the effect on LDL levels varies among species. The increase in VLDL is caused by stimulation of hepatic VLDL secretion or inhibition of clearance, or both. These alterations can have deleterious or beneficial effects.
