Abstract
The adiabatic elastic constants of single-crystal cadmium fluoride have been measured over the temperature range of 4.2-295 K. The values of the elastic constants given in units of N/ at 4.2 and 295 K, respectively, are , , and . The Debye temperature calculated from the elastic constants at 4.2 K is 331.6 ± 0.7 K. A phenomenological relationship between the Debye temperature and the reduced mass of the unit cell of the cubic-metal fluorides is reported.
