Abstract
When a magnetic field is applied to the surface of a lamination of a metallic ferromagnetic core, it does not instantly penetrate into the interior because of the induced eddy currents. If the B-H curve of the core material is a straight line, the computation of the field within the material can be performed with known methods. For a general B-H curve the resulting equation for H is nonlinear, and only a numerical solution is possible. The purpose of this paper is to give an approximate solution for the case of a rectangular hysteresis loop material. The theoretical results that are developed are in close agreement with the experimental measurements described in this paper.
