The Effects of Race, Weight Loss and the Time of Clamping of the Umbilical Cord on Neonatal Bilirubinemia

Abstract
Serum bilirubin concentration was determined on the third day of life for 142 full term infants, and 173 premature infants. Negative correlations were found between bilirubinemia and both birth weight and length of gestation, and positive correlations between total serum bilirubin values and weight loss. Colored premature infants had lower bilirubin values than white premature infants. Delayed clamping of the umbilical cord was associated with an increase in bilirubinemia in premature infants.
