THE EFFECT OF HOST LIVER DAMAGE, PORTACAVAL SHUNT, AND VARIOUS IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE REGIMES ON CANINE AUXILIARY LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Abstract
SUMMARY Liver damage was inflicted on 19 dogs by means of complete bile duct ligation and a portacaval shunt. One group did not receive a transplant but did receive immunosuppression and acted as controls. The other three groups were given an auxiliary liver transplant which was inserted by the Welch technique. Each group received different immunosuppressive regimens including antilymphocyte globulin (ALG) and intraaterial graft immunosuppression. Survival was not increased and liver atrophy was not affected by any of the regimes
