Abstract
Congenital anomalies of the lung in the adult are being recognized with increasing frequency and an awareness of the possibility of their presence in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary disease may lead to the correct diagnosis during the course of an adequate clinical examination, including roentgenogram of the chest. Failure to consider the possibility of an anomalous condition, on the other hand, may lead to embarrassing error in diagnosis and management. Illustrative cases are discussed. A review of the congenital anomalies of the lung is presented with emphasis on those occurring in the adult which would be of primary importance to the internist. A simple classification of principal anomalies is included, as well as a brief review of recent literature concerning the embryology of the lung.
