Abstract
Geochemical analyses of charnockitic and non-charnockitic fractions of the granite-gneiss formation of the Varberg Series are presented. Factor analysis of geochemical-variation trends indicates that the granite gneisses are meta-arkoses (potassic sandstones) of taphrogeosynclinal type. The possible significance of this finding in the interpretation of the development of the Precambrian crystalline complex of south-western Sweden is discussed. Keywords
