Intrahippocampal application of cholinergic agents and blockers: Effects on rats in differential reinforcement of low rates and Sidman avoidance paradigms.

Abstract
Application of muscarinic or nicotinic agents or related receptor blockers to the hippocampus of 29 male albino Sprague-Dawley rats produced selective facilitatory or inhibitory effects on performance in Sidman avoidance and differential reinforcement of low rates paradigms. The pattern of results suggests that nicotinic and muscarinic stimulation of the hippocampus may exert antagonistic effects on responses which are under inhibitory control.
