Skew Plates in Bending

Abstract
Skew plate analysis is of considerable importance in a number of branches of engineering. It is, however, invariably difficult, and exact solution of differential equations in skew plate bending does not exist even today. Various methods have been employed to solve the intricate problem. An attempt has been made in the present paper to solve the skew plate problem by a method that may be termed semianalytic finite difference. In this method, a displacement function satisfying boundary conditions along two opposite edges of the plate is assumed. The displacement function is then substituted in the differential equation of the plate. By certain transformations, the resulting equation is reduced to an ordinary differential equation. This equation is then solved by the finite difference method. The philosophy of the method is similar to that of the Kantorovich and finite strip methods.
