Abstract
Three additional patients with absence of the lumbar spine and sacrum have been subjected to subtrochanteric amputations and rehabilitation by prosthetic fitting and training. Gross and histological findings of surgical and autopsy specimens have been presented. Conjectures have been presented relative to the mechanisms responsible for the severe deficit indicating the role of induction mechanisms present in the differentiating embryo. The etiologic factor or factors are unknown. Keywords
