Abstract
A skull, without lower jaw or postcranial elements, of a new omomyid (?) lemur is named ROONEYIA viejahensis. It was found at approximate latitude 30[degree] 31[image] 35[image] N, longitude 104[degree] 48[image] 24[image] W in Presideo County, Texas, in the Chambers Formation. It is dated as very early Oligocene by associated forms and as approximately 35 m.y. from K-Ar dates above and below. The more significant primitive characters are the open orbit, the cusp pattern of the molars, the angle of the foramen magnum, and the position of the lacrimal foramen. The more significant advanced characters are the expanded brain, the ossified tubular external auditory meatus, absence of a foramen lacerum medius, reduction of cingulum on the molars and, possibly, as anthropoid dental formula.
