Abstract
The Western type of equine encephalo-myelitis virus has been isolated from wild bird mites, L. bursa, collected in the Dallas Co., Texas, area. Two months later the E a tern equine virus was recovered from a horse brain submitted from Jefferson Co., Texas, where a wide-spread epizootic was occurring thus indicating that both the Western and Eastern types of equine encephalomyelitis were active in Texas at about the same time. The report em-Ijphasizes the importance of virus isolations from similar bird mites in 2 widely separated areas (California and Texas). Keywords
