Abstract
The Galerkin method of weighted residuals is used in the 3‐dimensional analysis of asymmetric tall buildings subjected to lateral loads. Using polynomial shape functions, approximate displacement functions are obtained for both rigid and flexible foundations by minimizing the virtual work done over the entire height of the building. Numerical examples are solved and compared with existing results to validate the technique for both uniform and nonuniform sectional properties. The method is shown to be elegant and produces results within reasonable accuracy. Keywords
