Abstract
A survey is made of spin-dependent effects in mesonic masses. The data are fragmentary but yield a phenomenological formula with some predictive power. Vector (one gluon exchange) terms appear to be approximately proportional to αs. The scalar contribution to light meson spin-orbit effects is consistent with a quadratic confining force. The phenomenological formula is applied to motivate future experimental study. Keywords
