Bekesy Audiometry in Nonorganic Auditory Problems

Abstract
The Clinical Forum section of the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders1recently reported on the rather unique Békésy tracings displayed by patients manifesting nonorganic hearing problems. At the time this clinical note appeared, the Army Audiology and Speech Center at Walter Reed General Hospital was also compiling data for a similar report on subjects who showed evidence of bilateral exaggerated auditory problems. Our report adds support to the theory that the Békésy tracing is a valuable diagnostic aid in those cases in which there is eventual normal auditory sensitivity as well as in cases in which nonorganic overlay exists.
