Abstract
An automated enzymatic method for determination of seminal citric acid by using an Abbott ABA-100 bichromic analyzer is presented. The technique is a rapid and simple micromethod which does not require semen deproteinization and which has been optimized to provide satisfactory precision and accuracy. [Biochemical analysis of seminal plasma provides an indication of the contribution of the individual accessory glands to the ejaculate. Reduced amounts or the absence of citric acid can indicate a lack of prostatic fluid in the ejaculate, perhaps as the result of an obstruction of the prostatic ducts due to inflammation. Citric acid in seminal plasma is also a good indicator of androgenic stimulation.].
