Abstract
Studies on the interaction between sleep and thermoregulation are reviewed with regard to the processes underlying the ultradian evolution of behavioral states. The experimental evidence shows that thermoregulatory mechanisms influence the waking-sleeping cycle in both the absence or the presence of a thermal load. Such a control appears to be a functional necessity to maintain physiological homeostasis. Keywords
