Abstract
The co-type of Malacoceros (Malacoceros) indicus has been redescribed. Several discrepancies have been noted with regard to various characters. It is pointed out that use of modern optics in descriptions of setal characters makes it desirable to redescribe certain older species, in order to avoid the establishment of new species that will later have to be synonymized. It is also pointed out that specific characters commonly used for spionids are not necessarily valid for all genera, even though they have been used in the past.
