Visualizing the Nucleon Through Phase-Space Distributions
Abstract
While the form factors and parton distributions provide separately the pictures of the nucleon in coordinate and momentum spaces, a more powerful, dynamical nucleon imaging can be achieved through phase-space distributions. Here we introduce the Wigner-type quark and gluon distributions which portrait the full 3D nucleon structure for every fixed parton momentum, analogous to "seeing through color-filters". The Wigner distributions reduce to the generalized parton distributions (GPD's) and transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions after appropriate phase-space reductions. The new interpretation of GPD's provides a dynamical picture for the spin and magnetic moment of the nucleon in terms of the momentum and electric currents of quarks and gluons along the spin axis. Keywords
