Mesquite gum. II. The arabinan peripheral chains

Abstract
Autohydrolysis of mesquite gum affords a series of arabinose-containing oligosaccharides [A–Q] whose structures have been established. It is concluded that the majority of these oligosaccharides originate from peripheral chains in the gum containing the following sugar sequences:(1) α-L-Araf-(1 → 6)-α-D-Galp-(1 → 3)-α-L-Araf-(1 → 3)-L-Araf-(1- and(2) β-L-Araf-(1 → 2)-β-L-Araf-(1 → 2)-β-L-Araf-(1 → 2)-β-L-Araf-(1 → 2)-α-L-Araf-(1 → 4)-β-L-Arap-(1 → 3)-L-Araf-(1-.
