Abstract
A series of compounds was prepared based on the a-arylidene A B:y -butenolide skeleton, and containing conjugated systems analogous to that present in anhydrotetronic acid. Several of the synthetic products show definite, if rather low, activity as hatching agents for the potato eelworm. The structural similarity between the active substances is discussed. No hatching activity was detected in a number of coumarin and oxazolone. derivatives. Keywords
