Abstract
High-moisture content (18.0-19.1%) alfalfa wafers stored with and without forced-air-drying were compared to baled hay when fed to milk cows. The daily consumption of the 2- by 2 1/2-in. wafters averaged 3.5 1b (P< 0.05) per cow more than baled hay, but there was no significant difference between the two lots of wafers. There was no significant difference in production between conventionally stored wafers and baled hay, but on aerated wafers FCM was increased 2.0 lb per day (P< 0.05). There was no significant effect upon milk fat or daily live weight gain. Keywords
