Abstract
The publication of the second edition of the American College of Physicians' Guide for Adult Immunization ( 1 ) will be an important event. First, it will be a tangible expression of the College's continuing commitment to preventive medicine in general and adult immunization in particular. Second, the Guide will be a practical compendium of information for implementing an effective immunization strategy both for individual patients with special needs and for entire population groups. Finally, it 'will call the attention of the biomedical community—from the basic scientist to the clinician and public health planner—to important deficiencies in our present immunization
